Potala Palace, located in Lhasa, Tibet, is an iconic symbol of Tibetan Buddhism and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Originally built in the 7th century during the reign of King Songtsen Gampo, it was expanded into its current form in the 17th century and served as the winter residence of the Dalai Lamas.
Perched at an altitude of 3,700 meters (12,139 feet) on Marpo Ri Hill, the palace is renowned for its impressive architecture, featuring a striking combination of white and red structures. The interior houses numerous chapels, shrines, and halls, adorned with exquisite murals, statues, and thangkas that showcase Tibetan art and culture.
