After breakfast, we'll start our exploration with the famous Gulangyu Island. It is a small island located just off the coast of Xiamen and is renowned for its well-preserved colonial-era architecture, beautiful beaches, and charming alleys. There are no vehicles allowed on the island, creating a peaceful and idyllic environment. As you wander along the narrow streets, you'll be greeted by various Western-style buildings that date back to the early 20th century, which were once the residences of foreign consulates and wealthy merchants. The island is also dotted with numerous historical sites such as the Shuzhuang Garden, which combines natural landscapes with delicate garden designs, and the Piano Museum that houses a remarkable collection of pianos from different eras and countries. Spend a few hours here, soaking up the unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty.

Connected to the ferry terminal that takes you to and from Gulangyu Island, Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street is a bustling commercial area filled with a wide variety of shops, restaurants, and local vendors. The street features a unique blend of traditional and modern architecture, with its  arcaded buildings providing shade and a distinctive look. Known as the "Eight Markets" among the locals, Baishi Seafood Market is a must-visit for seafood lovers. This bustling market is filled with fresh catches of the day, from various kinds of fish, shrimp, crabs to shellfish. You can see the fishermen unloading their hauls and the vendors busy arranging their stalls. Our first stop in Fuzhou is the renowned Three Lanes and Seven Alleys. This historical and cultural district is a living museum of ancient architecture and local traditions. Spend a few hours exploring this place to deeply understand the profound historical and cultural heritage of Fuzhou.

Next, we'll come to the Fuzhou Urban Forest Trail, also known as Fudao. It is a remarkable urban greenway that winds through the mountains and forests in the city. Special thanks to my guide, Sofia. It's really hard for me to find a Spanish tour guide. She is professional and I have a good understanding about the China culture under her guide. During the Xi'an trip, I was shocked by the strong atmosphere of culture. I hope I can go next time, really love it.

Independent travel by train in China…
Independent travel by train in China can be daunting ordeal. We decided to use Intoexplore for booking the trip and are very happy we did. It almost felt like Norman was a family member guiding us through how to use Alipay for payments in China to where to find the ticket office in the train station to convert digital tickets to paper. He was always available (sometimes at 6 am!) to answer any question and solve any problems that arose .. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who is thinking about independent travel to China .
