Free Time: Rest and acclimatize to the bustling capital.

Recommended Activity: Imperial Banquet Dinner - indulge in a feast fit for emperors at a restored courtyard restaurant. Savor crispy Peking duck, watch acrobatic face-changing performances, and sip fragrant jasmine tea while musicians play guzheng (Chinese zither).

Pro Tip: Book dinner early to secure window seats overlooking a traditional courtyard.

Day 2: Beijing

●  Tiananmen Square - Forbidden City - Hutongs - Temple of Heaven

● 4+stars Hotel

● Breakfast

Start your day at Tiananmen Square for the dawn flag-raising ceremony, a patriotic spectacle with military marching bands. Next, step into the Forbidden City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the former imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Snow blankets the red walls and golden roofs, creating a monochrome contrast against the azure winter sky.

In the afternoon, pedal through the Hutongs (traditional alleyways) on a trishaw, weaving through narrow lanes lined with siheyuan (courtyard homes). End your day at the Temple of Heaven, a masterpiece of Ming-era architecture where emperors prayed for harvests.

Recommended Activity: Use a telephoto lens to zoom in on the Forbidden City’s intricate roof tiles.

Travel Tip: Wear waterproof boots to navigate slushy streets.

Day 3: Beijing

●  Mutianyu Great Wall - Bird’s Nest - Water Cube

● 4+stars Hotel

● Breakfast

After breakfast, depart for the Mutianyu Great Wall, where snow clings to ancient stones and frost-laden pines frame the valley below. Ride the cable car to Tower 14 for panoramic views, then hike the “Eagle Flies Facing Upward” trail—a 2-hour trek along unrestored steps ending at Tower 20, which overlooks the wild Jiankou section. For a thrill, rent a plastic sled and zoom down from Tower 6 to the foothill. As dusk falls, return to Beijing for an Olympic Park Night Tour: marvel at the Bird’s Nest glowing in red, blue, and gold during hourly light shows. Then head to the Water Cube, now an Olympic-sized ice rink. The aquatic center’s exterior flickers like a giant ice cube.

Recommended Activity: Use a slow shutter speed (1/4s) to capture light trails from passing cars along the park’s promenade.

Travel Tip: Bring microspikes for boots—icy steps can be slippery.

Day 7: Snow Town

●  Explore Snow Town

● 4+stars Hotel

● Breakfast

After breakfast, immerse yourself in Snow Town, a winter wonderland where snowdrifts pile higher than rooftops. Begin at Xueyun Dajie, the village’s lively main drag lined with wooden cottages adorned with candy-cane chimneys and red lanterns. Browse stalls selling handcrafted ice lanterns, frosted pinecone ornaments, and steaming cups of sweet fermented milk tea.

Next, wander through the Snow Market, a bustling hub where vendors hawk fur-lined boots, spiced mulled wine, and skewers of grilled beef. Watch artisans carve ice sculptures of dragons and pagodas, their chisels tapping rhythmically in the crisp air.

For a taste of rural life, hop aboard a horse-drawn sled (马拉爬犁). The clip-clop of hooves echoes as you glide through frozen forests, past snow-laden birches and wooden bridges draped with icicles. The journey culminates at the Ice Gallery (冰雪长廊), a natural tunnel formed by a frozen waterfall. Sunlight filters through the ice, casting an ethereal blue glow—perfect for capturing with a polarizing filter.

Recommended Activity: Use a macro lens to photograph snowflakes clinging to woolen mittens during the sled ride.

Travel Tip: Pack a universal charger—cold temperatures drain phone batteries rapidly.

Special thanks to my guide, Sofia. It's really hard for me to find a Spanish tour guide. She is professional and I have a good understanding about the China culture under her guide. During the Xi'an trip, I was shocked by the strong atmosphere of culture. I hope I can go next time, really love it.

Independent travel by train in China…
Independent travel by train in China can be daunting ordeal. We decided to use Intoexplore for booking the trip and are very happy we did. It almost felt like Norman was a family member guiding us through how to use Alipay for payments in China to where to find the ticket office in the train station to convert digital tickets to paper. He was always available (sometimes at 6 am!) to answer any question and solve any problems that arose .. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who is thinking about independent travel to China .
